INDIA'S FASTEST SUPERCOMPUTER build by ISRO

INDIA'S FASTEST SUPERCOMPUTER build by ISRO

Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) had built the India's fastest open source based supercomputer which was designed and build by Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Thiruvananthpuram in Kerala named "SAGA-220 by Satish Dhawan supercomputing facility located at VSSC.
The supercomputer "SAGA-220" built by Satish Dhawan former head of space agency located at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram after its inauguration by K Radhakrishnan, Chairman of ISRO on Monday   (Courtesy : News Sources)
The new GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) based supercomputer SAGA-220 is fastest in terms of theoretical peak performance of 220 TeraFLOPS (220 Trillion Floating Pint Operations per Second)."The GPU system offers advantage over the conventional CPU (central processing unit)-based system in terms of cost, power and space requirements. The eco-friendly system, which consumes about 150 kilowatt, can be scaled to many petaflops - 1,000 teraflops," the statement noted. It will also be used by our scientists to solve complex aerospace problems," ISRO said in a statement.
The supercomputer was designed and built by VSSC using open source software, hardware and in-house developments at a cost of Rs.14 crore (Rs.140 million).SAGA-220 was inaugurated by K Radhakrishnan, Chariman ISRO at VSSC on Monday, ISRO said in a statement.
The Present GPU System offers significant advantage over the conventional CPU based system in terms of cost, power and space requirement, it said. The system is environmentally green and consumes a power of only 150 KW. This system can also be easily scaled to many PetaFLOPS (1000 TeraFLOPS).
